Same as normal, note a DB upgrade is required so make sure you have a backup first.

You must also use SQL Native Client driver for your ODBC connection and ensure the account you are connecting to the VC database with (that has db_owner permissions), must also have db_owner permission to the msdb database.

You can of course leave VC2.5 running on MSDE (SQL 2000) should you wish, however not overly recommended but indeed possible.

MSDE is not supported in 2.5 any longer, you must you SQL express, but that will limit you. My recomendation is to use SQL 2005 on clustered hardware platform if possible.

Following the upgrade guide as well, you shouldn't run into any issues.

Although it may not be supported - it is possible to do as I currently have a number of VC 2.5's running on the MSDE install from 2.0 upgrade which are waiting for an upgrade to SQL 2005.

But as you mention, not supported just worth keeping in mind for planning an upgrade
