Is there a "best way" to move a vc 2.5 installation from one really old beater server to a better old beater server?
Because of our environment, Ghost and other imaging products aren't really an option.
Thanks,
Lance
There are several options you can deal with this is:
1. Use P2V converter and put in in a virtual machine and V2P it back but takes long time.
2. P2P to a new better physical server cost money for P2P license per migration.
Best shot is to follow this:
3. Backup your VC database and license file and install brand new VC 2.5 Update 2 on Windows 2003 server and point to the existing database/credentials and re-read license file should be good to go.
Like David has mentioned, critical part is database just backup it up and install fresh.

The important question is where is the VC Database stored? Because nothing really gets stored on the VC server about your environemnt it is stored in the VC database - If it is on a SQL Server on a different box than all you need to do is a fresh install of Virtual Center and point to the existing datastore and when asked to reinitalize datastore because existing date is found day NO -

Thanks for the advice. In this case the sql database resides on the server I wish to update.
I think I will do the fresh install, then restore the database to the new server.
