It is needed so I can upgrade VC4 to VC5
It should be as simple as in any other software, detach, copy/move, attach, change DSN entry
But of course, it is NOT:
"... may also need to migrate the ADAM database..."
May or have to?
Also after the move I get:
Event ID: 7024
The VMware VirtualCenter Server service terminated with service-specific error The system cannot find the file specified..
And what file would that be?
Anybody has a clue to to fix it?
Seb
Have you checked your vpxd.log to see what error it shows?

Did now:
ODBC error: (28000) - [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Login failed for user ''.
So updated as per:
and now it works
It really should be simpler....
Seb
that is the account used to authenticate to your VCDB. You have confirmed the user listed in your ODBC connection to your VCDB tested sucessfully?
Glad it's working, and documentation should reference this issue. Problem is, there's almost too much documentation at times, and not enough in others.

Actually just this morning I just posted a blog post about it. Along with some links you might find useful.
http://www.vnoob.com/2011/12/12/upgrade-sql-server-your-vsphere-upgrade/
Let me know if it helps or if you have other questions!
Almost.
You chose the "easier" way of "Uninstall the old versions of vCenter and VUM"
So ofcourse if you re-install the vpxd user/password will be correct
I needed to keep my VC4 for the moment, but move the DB only to SQL 2008 R2

The link is not working.
thanks

I just tried all the links in the thread and they all work for me.
Which one isn't working?

That is actually my site.
I have tried with 2 different browsers and it works. I also had a couple different friends check it and they said it loaded fine.
Would you be able to maybe try it with a different browser? Or are you possibly behind a restricted proxy ?
