How to create virtual vCenter Server with virtual machine version 9?

Hi,

Today I discovered that you can only select virtual machine version 9 from vCenter Web Client. What if you want to create a virtual vCenter Server but you cannot select version 9 for that virtual machine as there is no Web Client available yet. This sounds like a chicken and an egg problem.

Any idea how to proceeed? I would like to create new virtual vCenter Server where I use virtual machine version 9 from the beginning, but my only tool for creating first virtual machine is vSphere Client.

Interesting question. I just deployed the vCenter Server Appliance with version 5.1 yet, so I didn't have this issue yet. Basically all you can do (except fo manually patching the .vmx file) is to deploy the VM with version 8 and once it is up and running use "Schedule VM Compatibility Upgrade" from the Web Client to upgrade on next reboot.
