How to change database used by an existing VC Server ?

Since we encounter problem with the underlying database used by VC Server 2.5 U5, we would like to create a new SQL Server 2005 Express instance for VC Server.

Is there any way for us to tell VC Server to use the new database ? Should we change a particular XML file ?

Moreover, we would like to confirm that the NIC settings / vSwitch settings will not be lost when a new database is used. Is it correct ?

Thanks

Hi,

Well in that case, since you'll be using a new database, you'll lose the data like perf charts, alarms, scheduled tasks, permissions etc.

The NIC settings will not be lost since these are ESX host settings.

Thanks.

Hi,

Well, if you change the database, all the previous data will be lost e.g performance charts data etc.

You have to un-install the current VC and then install it again while pointing it to the new database.

Are you planning to migrate data from your current database to new database?

Thanks.

you will need to create new ODBC connection pointing to new DB.

You will not loose your NIC config for ESX servers, ti show up after adding ESX servers to VC after new Database.

You will losse permissions/perf data that was in old database.

We will not restore the previous database to the new instance.
