How to Update vCenter 5.5 U1 to 5.5 U2

Hi Guys,

Where can I find some good documentation on how to update vCenter from 5.5 U1 to 5.5 U2?

We have 2 sites in linked mode, SRM installed but not setup yet, vCOPs and Horizon View 6.

Also we have implemented domain certificates for all above services/sites.

I can't seem to find update doco only upgrade doco.

Cheers,

Steve

Hey,

Its is very straight forward for upgrading from 55u1 to 552. Just download 55U2 installer. This is minor upgrade so there is no schema change of DB. You don't need to worry about certificates if it is not expired. After upgrade same certificates would be working.

Please upgrade your setup in following order

1.) Upgrade virtual center single on from 55 U1 to U2.

2.) Upgrade Inventory Service 55 U1 to U2.

3.) Upgrade Web client and Vsphere client if you have 55 U1 to U2.

4.) Upgrade virtual cneter server 55 U1 to U2.

Post Upgrade:

- All service will be running fine

- Data will be intact

- Same user and permissions would be working

Note: Please don't use simple install for minor upgrade The above process for the windows VC. Few important links are below

I have rechecked the doco.

Version 5.1 to 5.5 would be an upgrade.

I want to do 5.5U1 to 5.5U2 which would be an update.

As per this link vSphere 5.5 Documentation Center

I can't find any more doco so will run with the Upgrade doco...

I meant update too. It's the same process. Do a simple install and upgrade it. But follow what has to be done with linked mode.

Please remember if you are doing 5.5 U1 to 5.5U2 , simple install will not work. that's not supported option here. You need to upgrade each installer separately.

Hello Steve,

5.5 U1 to 5.5U2 is straight forward. You cannot change any installation settings during upgrade.

But in case you want to know the upgrade sequence considering you have SRM, vCOPS, Horizon View and vCenter, it will be following;

1. Horizon View

2. vCenter Server

3. vCenter Site Recovery Manager (SRM)

4. vCenter Operations Manager (vCOPS)

You can refer to kb 2057795 for update sequence
