For Windows 2003 and XP you need to modify the hardware acceleration (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1011702)

This can be done by installing the WDDM display drivers (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1016770). Don't forget to increase the video RAM to at least 32MB for the VM prior to installing the driver!

So i went to that KB.Vmware article but there was no where to  download this WDDM video driver.  And i looked and searched everywhere  on the Guest OS and cannot find the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers\wddm_video\

please  point me to where i can Download this driver as i am desparate to  resolve the poor display performance issue on these guest os's

thanks

There seems to be a typo in the KB article. After installing VMware Tools (at least with the latest version) you will find the drivers in

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers\video_wddm (rather than ...\wddm_video)

Does the ...\VMware\Drivers directory exist at all in your virtual machine?

yes it does apper in my C: drive but only under C:\Program Files\Vmware

i looked in c:\program files\common files\ and there is no VMware folder

the only folders i see located in C:\Program Files\Vmware\Vmware Tools\Drivers\ are

audio

memctl

pvscsi

vmxnet

mouse

vmxnet3

vss

Just some quick questions.

Which version of vCenter Server and ESX/ESXi are you currently running?

Did you create the VMs with a virtual hardware version 7 or 8 (minimum requirement is HW version 7)?

André

Message was edited by: a.p. - You can safely forget my first question, as you mentioned version 4.1 in your other discussion Smiley Wink

i have hosts with ESX 4.1 and ESXi 4.1

All my VM's were configured with either 7 or 8 HW version.

That's interesting. Can you please run a quick search on your C: drive for WDDM?

Are you running Windows 2008 (32/64 bit) or Windows 2008 R2?

Which VMware Tools version did you install?

Did you run an interactive installation of the Tools (i.e. "Typical" installation)?

You may want to try installing the latest tools for the ESXi version you use at http://packages.vmware.com/tools/esx/index.html

My VM's are running Windows server 2008 R2 64bit

My VMtools version is 8.3.2 Build-257589

As i was typing this my search discovered the file!

the folder Vmware located at c:\program files\common files\Vmware was somehow hidden

thanks for your help i think i got it from here

Okay,

I successfully installed the SVGA 3D (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) Driver.

But my Consoling experience is still slow.

it did absolutley nothing.

and i did Up my Video memory to 32mb like the KB article said.

any other suggestions?

In addition to the WDDM display driver, check whether the "VMware Pointing Device" mouse driver is installed.

oKAY THAT WORKED!

now on windows xp and 2003 if im experiencing the same poor display performance when consoling in.  Is there a different procedure?

i ask because i noticed just one of my windows 2003 VM's has the Vmware Pointing Device Driver installed as well as Vmware SVGA II display driver installed and it still very poor performance when consoling in.
