How does vSphere Client handle data passing between client and server?

One of the managers at this site asked me this today:

How does VMware handle the process of using the vSphere Client from system admin's desktop? Is the authorization information clear text or encapsulated?

Same questions for using the vSphere Client from the vCenter Server. And this one - does the Client actually go outside of the local server and then come back in?

Appreciating any responses.

The communication between the vSphere client and the vCenter server is encrypted. It uses https and ssl and goes via port 443. If you run the vSphere client on the vCenter server, then the communication will not go outside the server. The network stack of the server will know that the traffic is local.
