How do I edit our hosts snmpd.conf file?

Hello,

I'm trying to add our 2 hosts to our SNMP server (Soalrwind's Orion NPM).  On both hosts I have gone to /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf, but I don't know how I edit this file and save it?

All I see is:

[root@VMHOST1 vmware]# more snmp.xml
<config><snmpSettings><enable>false</enable><communities></communities><targets>
</targets></snmpSettings></config>
[root@VMHOST1 vmware]#

Please help

Thanks

Add as what? Traptarget or as a server which may read SNMP?

How do I use a text editor to make the change?  Or can I add from the command line?

Use "vi": http://www.eng.hawaii.edu/Tutor/vi.html

Thanks, so it looks like people open the file in a text editor like vi.

In that link it says "Open the /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf file in a text editor."

seems to be a few vi editors to download, do you recommend one?

Thanks

Use the vi which comes with ESX.

If that is not common for you, install WinSCP, connect to your ESX host, select the file and use your favorite Windows editor.
