Host won't connect to VC.

I had a network outage to a remote site where we have a few ESX 3.02 hosts. The network is back up, but now all of my hosts show "disconnected" in VC. I've tried restarting the mgmt agents, and nothing seems to work. I get an error that the specified host does not exist or not available. I am able to connect directly to the host with the VI client.

did you also restart the virtual center server service on the VC?

Then right click the host and connect.

There wernt any pswitch configuration changes made were ther? portfast still enabled on the pswitch

Yes, first I tired just cycling just the service, and then the entire server.

Can you ping the Service Console from your VC Server and vice versa? You will want to use the FQDN when trying this.

I would try first removing the host and readding it to VC considering you have restarted the VC Server Service.

1st--- no panic..

try..

restart mgmt-vmware restart

service vmware-vpxa restart

service xinetd restart

service vmware-vmkauthd restart

then wait 5 to 10 min...( there is a wait period before host apprear online again...)

if not try to remove and re-add host.

the if nothing work... start to stress a bit... kidding

Dang...I am an idiot. I can't ping the host from the VC server. I am in a different location, and I can access the host, and VC. The network issue is between where the VC server and host is. Not between my location and the other two.

Can you remove the Hosts from the cluster and then re add them?

If it won't let you remove them you would have to force it. Here is a link to a post where someone else did this to move their hosts to new VC without stopping the VMs

I had the same issues. Make sure you have the latest version of Virtual center to work properly with ESX 3.0.2
