Host VirtualCenter 2.5 on a vm

Can I host the VirtualCenter 2.5 as a Virtual Machine?

Yes, I run multiple virtual centers in VM's and have no problems.

As Markdjones states, it is certainly able to be done. However, just ensure that the VirtualCenter Server in a VM, doesn't manage itself, especially if you use DRS. Otherwise, have at it!

So can I do HA and vmotion if I host VirtualCenter in a VM?

yes, running VC as a VM is fully supported and has all the same functions as if you were to run it on a physical host.

My one recomendation is to keep the DB of a seperate physical cluster.

You can use every function of VirtualCenter whether the server is running on a VM or Physical server.

not necessary as you may need to consider patch activity on the host itself. there will be some disadvantage VS physical Virtual center
