High traffic between VC 5.5 appliance and ESXi 4.1 hosts

I have recently upgraded my Essentials 5.5 VC appliance and have noted that I am getting significant spikes of traffic between the VC and my two 4.1 hosts.  The traffic appears to originate from the VC towards the hosts and is fairly regular.

My VC is running over a DSL link to the hosts at another Data Centre. Until recently, this has worked really well but the traffic load is such that it effectively kills the DSL uplink.  Is anyone able to tell me what the traffic is and can I throttle/stop it.  I nned to get my badwidth back !!.

An interesting read but didn't help much.  The only thing that has changed in the evironment recently was allowing the VC 5.5 appliance to download and install an update to itself.

I appreciate that running VC over a DSL link isn't the best but it has been working well over the last few years.  Firstly with 4.1 and then from about January with 5.5.
