Help - Installation of vCenter fails

Hi all,

Trying to install the first vCenter server on a virtual machine hosted on vSphere. The vm is configured as:

2 vCPUs

4 GB Ram

25 GB Thick HDD

OS: Windows Server 2003 Std x64

Running the install from the VMware Management CD, SQL Express is selected as the database type and this installs fine. When the install continues and gets up to 'Installing Charting Service' it fails with a message of ' Error 1711: An error occurred while writing installation information to disk. Check to make sure enough disk space is available, and click Retry, or Cancel to end the installation.'

Currently the vm is reporting that there is 19.6GB of free space both in disk management and windows explorer.

I know the error code above refers to an MSI error but cannot seem to find any resolution to the install.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi,

maybe this is not related, but look at this problem and solution (it is vCenter/MSI related):

Another solution could be copy all the installation files on the local disk and run from there.

Thanks adosm and Andre ... it turned out that it was just a bad msi file in the end. I redownloaded the setup files and it worked first go.
