Heartbeat and HA feature

We have vCenter with two Host, version 5.0

The guest machine is Windows 2008 R2, we want to have failover of the guest machine when the os crashes.

We configure the cluster in the HA section to Monitor the guest and we put hit machine in High sensitivity.

For testing we think that if we will kill the vmTool service(simulate os crash) in the guest the vCenter will restart the machine.

Actually it does nothing. In the vCenter we see that the host 'feel' that the vmTools is not running but the guest is not restarted at all.

Am I missing something ?

Thanks

I addition to the VMware Tools heartbeats, HA also monitors the I/O of the VM.

from http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2010/06/04/vm-monitoring-aka-vm-ha-heartbeat/

One thing to keep in mind though is that when heartbeats are no longer  received, by default sent out every second, VM Monitoring will check if  there is any Network or Storage I/O to avoid false positives.
