Hardware Status tab: An error occurred, please try again in another vSphere session

I logon with an authorized AD user in vCenter 4 everything works fine except the Hardware Status.

If I select the Hardware Status tab in vCenter the following message appears:

Message:

An error occurred, please try again in another vSphere session.

I found this message in the vCenter logfile:

ERROR task-internal-33170 -- -- vim.SessionManager.acquireSessionTicket: vim.fault.InvalidLogin:

If I make the AD user a member of the local Administrators group on the vCenter server all the hardware

info will be displayed.

Do I really need some local permissions on the vCenter server in order to get the Hardware status working?

If so what permissions do I need? (I don't want to make the AD users member of the local Administrators group)

Same situation here. Well the current solution, as OP stated is to add a user to local admins. Weird thing is that eaven when i log on as domain admin i get this error, only user added to local admins works.

Hi all,

I finally discovered that you just have to add domain account you plan to use to the domain "admin group".

As this group exist in the administrator group of th vCenter, this will allow "domain account" to browse succesfully the hardware status tab.

Bernard

BTW: don't forget to mark this as good answer whenever you have a solution.

Facing the same issue. Been trying almost all article we could found but issue is still here.

We are running vsphere update 1, two virtual center in linked mode. On one healtservice and hardware status works fine but on the other I receive the same error.

Only thing we have found until now is in the virtualcenter log files in vws.log :

http-8443-8 INFO 'com.vmware.vim.security.vcauthorize.AuthorizeMgr'] Computing permissions for Administrator

http-8443-8 ERROR 'com.vmware.vim.security.vcauthorize.impl.AuthorizeQueryProviderImpl'] Entity library not found

http-8443-8 ERROR 'com.vmware.vim.security.vcauthorize.AuthorizeMgr'] hasEntityPrivilege: Unknown entity group-d1

http-8443-8 INFO 'com.vmware.vim.security.authenticate.servlets.AuthenticationServlet'] User has no privileges.

Any help would really be appreciated Smiley Wink

Hi,

Are you using a domain account when login into vSphere?

Is that an administrator account on the domain?

Tried both. A domain admin account and the local vmware Administrator account.

Same issue with both accounts.

I hope storage display is OK when connected to each vCenter using a LOCAL admin account?

Otherwise this could have nothing to do with linked mode! (was the storage view tab correctly

displayed on both vcenter before joining them?

Yes and that's the weird part of it. Everything is working fine when you are logged with a domain account or with the local admin. Storage view is displayed correctly. to be sure I just went to check it and launched an update Smiley Wink Only things that are not working is when we select the vcenter service status on one vc it says "an error occured, try again in another vsphere session" where as it works fine on the other vc. Same message when we select the hardware status.

When I do the same thing on the other vc it works. I only have an red error with vcenter management webservices & feed service for the one on which I receive the message. Restarted the service, replaced the complete vws\data folder as stated in a Kb by something provided by vmware but it hasn't done the trick. Only clue we have found until now is the message I posted earlier.

I had hopes someone had faced & solved it. I am afraid I might have to raise a case with vmware support ...

Just to update & share our issue hoping that this might also help someone ...

As per Vmware support eng, there is a potential issue that could occur during database upgrade from VC2.5 to V4. Don't ask me why, how ... Run the below query against your VC database :

SELECT ID, DESCRIPTION, ANNOTATION, CONFIG, FILE_NAME, LOCAL_FILE_NAME

FROM VPX_VM

WHERE (CONFIG IS NOT NULL) AND (CONFIG LIKE '%VirtualLsiLogicController%') AND (ID NOT IN

(SELECT VM_ID

FROM VPX_VIRTUAL_SCSICONTROLLER))

Query should return a list of vm that are causing issues. Power them off. Remove them from inventory, register them back and power them on. In fact this did the trick and everything is green now in the health service and the hardware status tab is working also.
