HA Question

Hi all,

I have a few remote sites with one ESX 5.0 host running a couple VM's. I usually enable HA on the one host cluster so if the host crashed it would start the VM's back up.  Is this necessary on a one host cluster or will a crashed host restart VM's anyway?

no, you would not enable HA.  look to the VM Startup/Shutdown options.

with a one host cluster, HA/DRS have no value.  You'll need atleast two hosts to utilize HA.  So, with a single host, then host goes down, so do the VMs.  You can use the virtual machine startup/shutdown options though.

RIght.  I know they'll go down, but I was wondering if I needed to enable HA to have the VM's auto start up once the host comes back online.

Ah!  I never used those settings before since I usually have multiple hosts.  Thanks!
