Guided Consolidation/vCenter Converter question - cutting over from P2V after import?

Hi,

I am just trying guided consolidation (aka front end to standalone converter) and have successfully consolidated a physical server to a vitual server i.e. the import task has completed successfully and the new VM is now appearing in the inventory.

My question is, the import task completed overnight but obviously the physical server continued to be used after the conversion so they are out of sync - what is the recommended best practice method of doing these P2V conversions to prevent this from happening? I have done some reading and cant seem to find an answer on how to do this.

Is there a way to update the new VM with any recent changes or should i be shutting down the physical server immediately after successful migration and cutting over to the newly created VM.

FYI, we are using the VMWare Essentials Plus pack.

Cheers.

What is the primary app or function of the physical server? This will determine what you specifically need to copy over to the P2Ved image.

This is one reason I'm a big fan of using the cold clone functionality of converter so that you are basically copying a "gold image" of the physical server and no new transactions are happening to affect its integrity.
