Getting the error "The task was canceled by a user" while trying to power on a VM on vCenter Server

I am using a vCenter Server version 4.0.0, build 208111.

I sometimes get this message "The task was canceled by a user" message while trying to power on a VM.

Am not able to understand what causes the problem.. It is not every time that i get this error, but sometimes and that's what is bothering me..

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated..

I am encountering the same problem with a Windows Server 2008 R2 vm running under both VMWare Workstation 9 and VMPlayer. Can anyone help??

I discovered my problem - my host backup system was trying to do a background incremental back up of the VM files when I tried to start the VM. Of course, the VM files were locked by the backup program. If I happened to wait long enough for it to complete the backup, I could start the VM again, however, as soon as I started the VM, it would be flagged for backup again.
