Generate Task Entry/Message from ESX?

I'm looking for some way to log a Task in VirutalCenter from the ESX command line interface (CLI). For example when someone logs into the ESX directly, I would like a message to appear in the Recent Tasks such as:

ESX Loggin by user123 | ESX | O Completed | root | 8/22/2007 12:36:25 A

Does anyone know if it is possible from CLI? or Perl?

While you are correct that its being logged on ESX in the /var/log/messages, what I am looking for is when someone is watching the VI Client attached to VirtualCenter, a message shows up in the "Recent Tasks" portion of the screen (if possible).
