Failed to install vSphere Web Client 5.1

Hi,

We are running ESXi / vSphere 5.1.  We would like to start using vSphere Web Client.

When we attempt to install it on a Windows 8.1 workstation, it failed with the following error message:

Web client failed to connect to VMware Lookup Service https://<IP address>:7444/lookupservice/sdk

We would like to seek your advice

1) Do we need to install other components on the workstation before installing Web Client ?  If yes, what are components have to be installed ?

2) Does Web Client supports Windows 8.1 ?

3) If it supports Windows 8.1 and no other vSphere component has to be installed, is there any KB that mentions this problem ?

Thanks

To use vSphere Web Client you will need the vCenter server. Take a look at this KB article to see some vSphere Web Client requirements: VMware KB: Installing the vSphere Web Client

Before installing or upgrading the vSphere Web Client, ensure that:

  • The vCenter Single Sign On is installed and the Inventory Service and vCenter Server are upgraded or installed with version 5.1.
  • Your system meets the software requirements for the vSphereWebClient. For more information, see Minimum requirements for installing the vSphere and vSphere Web 5.x Client (2005083).
  • The vSphere Web Client and vCenter Server are registered to the same vCenter Single Sign On server. This ensures that the vSphere Web Client can access the vCenter Server inventory.
  • All browsers are closed.
  • You log in as a member of the Administrators group on the host machine, with a user name that does not contain any non-ASCII characters.
