FT problem

I have a FT enabled for one of my test vm. I can see it is protected. Secondary VM is showing up as secondary on another host.

When I power down the primary VM, secondary does not take over.

Am I missing something?

Hi Max, I agree with André. loosing 1 ping is acceptable cause of the network (i.e. ARP/RAPR).

I found this useful link about this “issue”: http://percymcnab.blogspot.com/2009/12/vmwares-fault-tolerance-or-ft.html, I hope this could help

The second host is simple esx02. without any domain?

If so, I suggest to register the host in your DNS and use the FQDN.

Hi Max are you powering off your VM form vCenter?

To test your FT environemnt you have to "kill"  your VM bt connecting directly to your ESX host.

If you want a complete list of test for your FT you may check this KB: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1020058

my 2 cents

By doing the test FT I am losing one ping when switching between the host. Is this normal?

Loosing one ping is acceptable and kind of expected. The VM's network (MAC address) has to be registered to another physical switch port which requires some time. It's basically the same as with vMotion, which also usually looses one ping.
