Error connecting to vCenter Server using VMware Client

When attempting to connect to vCenter server using vSphere client, I get this message:

"a general system error occurred: authorize exception"

However, if I log into the vCenter server locally, and use a local Windows account in vSphere Client to connect to the vCenter Server on the same machine - it works OK.

There is obviously a problem with what happens when vCenter server needs to use active directory to authenticate a user connecting with VMware client.

Has anyone seen this before or have any ideas?

Thanks

I had a similar issue on two different sites

  1. It was my windows local firewall on my Windows 7 desktop that prevented this from working
  2. Other situation was DNS was not working properly and once I had a static entry this worked

But if you make an RDP to vCenter and if you use the same AD user  it works?

If not, then could be a problem with AD authentication.

Thanks - it turned out to be a DNS problem and manual reconfiguation of DNS on the vCenter Server fixed the issue.
