Error after cloning during customization

During the first startup after cloing another VM, the clone enters VM customization mode, then presents an error:

An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing. WIndows is unable to start becasue teh registry could not be updated. . . .WIndows must now SHut Down.

Then recycles, enters customization mode again, and errors out again. Repeatedly.

What should I look for to remedy this?

Thanks.

I would still check your source machine to see if the KB is helpful.

Troy,

Thanks. But I'm trying to clone a VM not deploy from template. The cloning works, but when I power on the clone, I go into this customization cycle. I can never get the machine to power up to check permissions.

Tony,

Had to back up and restart the process -- Clone to template, convert template to vm, start vm, edit as KB suggested, convert it back to template, then deploy from template. But at least I didn't get the error message!

Thanks, Tony.
