I have a datastore that is 1.8TB, currently reporting 833GB free. This particular datastore has a 2 MB block size (Vendor requirement).
Right now, there are 2 VMs on this, both with a single VMDK file at the maximum 512 GB file size (virtual disk was set to 500 GB on creation). There should be plenty of space to add the third one, but it won't let me. It comes back with the error:
"A general system error occorred: Error creating disk No space left on device"
The only thing on this datastore other than these 2 other VMs, is a 2 GB ISO file used for the software install. vCenter is reporting 833GB free, and if I log into an ESX server and do a vdf -h, that datastore is reporting 54% free right now.
Backend storage is an Equal Logic (no snapshop space reserved for the volume).
Any idea on why with that much free disk space I can't create another 500 GB virtual disk?
Is the LUN thin provisioned on your EqualLogic Array? If it is is there enough space available on the array?
Nope, volume is not thin provisioned. Plenty of space left on the array. 22TB....
Really...no one has any ideas?
Do you have some snapshot?
Have you tried to create a vmdk with 500GB to see if it works?
