Enhanced Linked Mode - patch level variance

For Enhanced Linked Mode, do all hosts need to be running the same patch or can they vary slightly? For example - a mix of 7.0 and 7.0.3

Looking to combine vCenters in ELM and gradually update clusters to eventually run the latest patch.
