  • 1.  EVC among AMD Processors

    Posted May 20, 2010 04:10 PM

    Hello All ,

I have a Virtual Center Server 2.5.0 Build 104215 & 4 ESX Hosts in a Cluster , Versions of ESX servers are :

    2 ESX Versions are : 3.5.0 , 64607

and rest of the 2 ESX Version in the Cluster are : 3.5.0, 110268,

The Processors on 1st 2 ESX servers are : Dual Core AMD Opteron 8220

The Processors on rest of the 2 ESX servers are : Quad Core AMD Opteron 8356

right now VMotion is working in Pairs & we want it to be enabled across Cluster :

Question is, are Dual Core AMD Opteron 8220 & Quad Core AMD Opteron 8356 EVC Compatible with the above versions of ESX and VC servers ?

    Regards

If EVC can not be used, you can use CPUid mask on each VM to try to make the CPU compatible.

See the VMotion error message and try to make some tests.

    HOLD....

Yesterday I saw your post....according to KB....EVC will work between 82xx series and 83xx series in VC 2.5 U2 and later..if THEY FALL IN OPTERON GENERATION 1", they will not work if they are between Gen1 and Gen2.....Which Gen does your proc's are?

    Thanks,,

    Hello All ,

    I got it sorted ,

2 of my servers had Generation 2 Processors & rest 2 Gen 3 , Upgrading all the ESX servers to ESX 3.5 Update 5 , removed the problem I was facing with incompatible Hosts ,

    Thanks to all who responded
