My apologies if this is answered somewhere else, but a few google and forum searches didn't turn this up.
We are planning our first ESX deployment. We'll be using our FC SAN. Does the vCenter server need to have direct connectivity to the SAN? (as in, does it need a FC card to connect directly to the fabric?)
From what I've read, I think the answer is no, but I wanted to double check, since we need to buy the right things the first time.
Thanks!
Nope it does not need to talk to the SAN just your Hosts

the VC dont need a fiber connectivity..
your ESX host need, but the connectivity between VC and ESX is via network (Ethernet)

The question is in what context are you asking?
Does it need fiber connection to the ESX Luns to work properly as vCenter (manage VI)? NO, it does not... (It's probably what you are asking)
Does it need fiber connection if you want to run VCB on the same box? Yes, it does...
Does it need fiber connectivity if you want to run SQL Db on the same box and keep DB on SAN? Yes, it does...
and etc...
Thanks
Thanks for the answers! That will save us a few bucks on the HBA cards.
