I think you'll find the VMM hooks into VC and runs the API's. So you've got the ability to perform operations such as VMotion.

As Mr-T says, it hooks in to VCMS and to be perfectly clear you cannot perform functions such as vmotion just using HP VMM, you do need VirtualCenter in the background.

Thanks another questions is : If I had installed the HP SIM, does I need to install the VMWare Virtual center Server?

If you're just monitoring the HP hardware then no, you don't need VirtualCenter.

Once you start using the VMM part, you'll need VirtualCenter.

so why would i want to install/learn/use another tool that just calls VC?

Because VMM can monitor the hardware and respond to predictive hardware failures.

Imagine you've got a host who's disk is about to fail, wouldn't it be nice to know that VMM could migrate away the virtual machines.
