Distributed Switches verse Standard Switches

Hey Everyone,

Are there features that are dependant on distributed switches you can't get with standard switches in vSphere 5?

Thanks,

Matthew

Bidirectional traffic shaping, Netflow, Port Mirror, NIOC, PVLANs are some that come to mind.

Yes, lots.

Load Based Teaming, Network IO Control, Storage IO Control to name some of the nicer ones.

Typically I would use standard switches in a management cluster and distributed switches for the production clusters.

Cheers,

Paul
