Deploy new VM using template-time consuming

I had a Virtual Machine in one of the ESX clusters.

(1) Converted the VM to a template.

(2) Using the template i have deployed 10 new VMs in the same Resource pool.

My question is

(a) Even though i have selected "Deploy Virtual Machine using template" , the task windows shows as "Clone Virtual Machine". Why?

Please explain what is the difference between "Cloning a VM from an existing VM" & "Deploying a VM using a template".

Clone & Template.. this usually confuses me a lot......

(b) And using the above method the operation of creating a new VM is taking 1 hr 40 mins.... the template size is only 12 GB.

Of course the cloning operation also depends on the ESX server resources. The ESX has 8CPU and already has close to 25 VMs already running.. is it because of this that operation is taking more time?

a) There are not many differences between template and a VM (you can see in the storage). The significant difference is that you cannot poweron a template.

You can probe to rename the file with extension: .vmtx (template) to .vmx (VM)

b) In your case, you have 2Mb/sg. Perhaps your problems will be by I/O in storage. Test tour performance of your storage.

This clone take very time.
