Hello All,
I am trying to customize a virtual machine during cloning using the customization wizard.
the operation is aborted after 96% with the following error.
"A general system error occured: unexpected customization error"
the guest OS on the virtual machine is WinXP and I have downloaded the sysprep files and copied them to all the directories in the folder "sysprep".
I also have repaired my VC server installation, I have also uninstalled and reinstalled it again on a clean Windows 2003, and no other VMware products have been installed on that machine.
Does any body have other solution to that problem?
Thank you very much.
Customization during cloning?
I've read this problem can take place with corrupt templates.
Can you try cloning another vm and then deploying from this clone?

I don't want to clone a template, I want to clone VMachine->VMachine and customize the new one.
Is that possible.
Thanks
Yes, it's possible.
I'm only suggesting to do it with two steps and with another vm as a source to see if the problems depends on the source and to be sure the problem is about customizing the os guest.
No, I think the problem is not in the source virtual machine because I have created a new virtual machine from the begining and the same problem occured.
Thnak you
In which folders did you copy the sysprep files?
The main one is the 1.1 folder.
Which files did you copy there?
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep\1.1
...\2k
...\svr2003
...\xp
I want to ask should I do something on the source machine guest operating system to enable customization or Virtual center should do that?
VC will do all the job for you.
It will collect your choices and change the vm with this information.
Can I see the sysprep.inf file generated by the Virtual Center?
If I can where it will be?
the customization specifications could be find here:
From Vi client Click on Edit and then on Customization specifications.
It's an xml file stored somewhere.
