Customization Specification Windows 2008 no gateway

I'm trying to use a custom spec to deploy a Windows 2008 Standard x64 VM from a template. The customization spec correctly syspreps, changes server name, sets local admin password, sets static ip address, subnet mask, and dns. It will not set the gateway ip. The server then fails to join the domain.

Have tried recreating the spec.

Have tried setting the Template to Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit) and resetting the VM back to Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (64-bit) before first boot

Have waited more than 20 minutes for this step to complete

Also have tried logging into VM and manually setting gateway. This works until VM is rebooted then gateway disappears again.

With this info I was able to correct the problem.

I downloaded the KB patch from Microsoft and applied this patch to the template.
