Custom permissions in vCenter stored in vCenter DB or elsewhere

Hello Guys

Recently we had to reinstall the vCenter Server and use the existing DB. Everything went well except for the fact that now all of our custom permissions (i.e. user-level permissions for specific vms) are gone.

From what i learned during VSICM i was told that these permissions are stored in the vCenter Server DB (which resides on an extra SQL-Server) and not locally with the vCenter Server installation.

So what is the problem here?

Hello.

Roles and permissions are stored in ADAM in vSphere 4.0 and later. This situation you describe is discussed at Duncan's site.

Good Luck!
