Create Custom Attributes or Columns

On the VM list inside vCenter, there are a number of columns such as, state, status, host, os ver, etc. That are exported when you export a list of VMs. I would like to create custom columns such as owner, server commission date, etc. and have that information included in any VM export list. How do I add such custom columns? Thank you in advance for your responses.
