  • 1.  Consumed Host Memory being higher (Windows 2003)

In Vsphere console we are seeing Consumed Host Memory being higher than the allocated memory in the Summary Tab, this is just happening on our Windows 2003 servers.     We are trying wondering is this normal, is this something that we should worry about or is the console just reporting bad data.  In the resource tab it is showing that Host Memory Consumed being over the allocated.

Perhaps there might be an KB article that explains this behavior.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello.

This is because of the overhead required to run the virtual machine.  This is best detailed in the vSphere Resource Management Guide.

    Good Luck!

We were looking at the consumed memory selection and was wondering on all but one VM the consumed memory was higher but if you go to the performance tab the memory is no where near what is showing in the summary tab.     Should we really care that the summary is off by a lot?
