Cloning to different cluster

I have two vSphere 5.1 clusters (prod and stage), using standard vSwitches. The switches have matching port groups. I want to clone a running VM from a host in the production cluster, to the stage cluster. When I get to the "Select compute resource" step in the vSphere Web Client, it says, "Error occurred while calculating compatibility: VM name for clone operation not provided." regardless of which cluster or host I select. In the fat client, compatibility succeeds, but the clone fails while copying virtual machine files, with "Cannot connect to host".

What gives? Thanks.

are you sure about your network (VLAN) and port group connections are same? if yes then share the data store of the source vm ( that you want clone) to stage cluster host where your destination vm resides and try.
