Cloning from template fails with a timeout error - operation timed out
what could be causing this? if i clone straight from a powered off vm it works fine...
Not exactly an answer, but have you tried restarting the mgmt-vmware service through the console?

Normally if I experience any connection or timeout issues I find the "service mgmt-vmware restart" command does the trick.
Do the agent restart on the host that holds the template and on the destination host but do 2 commands:
service mgmt-vmware restart
service vmware-vxpa restart
ok tried restarting the mgmt service and it doesnt make a difference - as for the vxpa - there is no service?
