Cant customise Windows guests during deployment and template

When I deploy a Windows 2003 VM from template, the option to customise is grayed out. Could anyone tell me what's causing this and how to get around it?

Hi there,

You need to download the relevant syprep version from MS for the OS you are deploying (2000, Xp, 2K3) and copy it to the following location on your VC server.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\sysprep

Win 2003 sysprep: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892778

Win 2000 sysprep: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0C4BFB06-2824-4D2B-ABC1-0E2223133AFB&displa...

Win XP SP2 sysprep: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=3E90DC91-AC56-4665-949B-BEDA3080E0F6&displa...

Technically, you only need the 2003 sysprep, and place it in the 1.1 subfolder (not the 2003 subfolder). Then any version of 2000/XP/2003 will work from this one copy.

rememeber that this is not the case for x64 XP ro 2003 as customisation is not supported via VC. you must do it the traditional way with a configured golden image template.

Does the entire docs, samples, tools, etc need to be copied or just the contents? pnpids.exe, setupcl.exe, sysprep.exe
