Another group in our organization manages our Virtual Center environment. Today we moved my ESX 2.5.3 host from Virtual Center 1.3.1 to Virtual Center 2.0.1. I created new folders in VC 2.0.1 so I could manage my VM's. The problem I have is that I cannot move the VM's into the folders. I have Administrator permission on the host but I cannot move the VM's into the folders. What gives?
Where are these folders in your hierarchy?
Where are the hosts?
My guess is that the hosts are in a cluster, you can not create folders in a cluster so your folders are not in the cluster.
Hence you will not be able to move the guests to these folders.
Why are you using folders?
If you create these folders in the Virtual Machines and Templates Inventory View, you can put the VMs in folders there.
Thanks Brian. You were right about the hierarchy view. I had the folders above where the Data Center was defined. Thank you for the assistance
