Cannot Add Hosts to New Cluster?

Here is the situation:

3 New ESX 4.0 servers that I'm wanting to add to a brand new

cluster that I created. I've enabled the cluster for HA, DRS, and EVC

and want to add these 3 hosts to it.

I get the error message "The name "host_name" already exists.

What can be causing this? From the documentation that I read it said as

a best practice to create an empty cluster first then enable the

features you want such as EVC, etc. and then add the hosts.

I'm trying to do this, but I'm not having any success because of this error.

Also, as a side note...when I go through the add host wizard and it

gets to the license section. I have 2 options...choose evaluation mode

or select from a list of existing licenses...the problem is that the

list of licenses...in this case 3 for the hosts that I've already setup

with their appropriate licenses is grayed out. I cannot select the

licenses, so I leave it at Evaluation and move on. Is that normal?

I appreciate any help...thanks!

Are you right-clicking on the evc cluster and selecting add host? If the hosts already exist in virtual center just drag and drop them onto the new cluster. You ant add host twice to vcenter.

remove all cluster and remake . (when you delete all cluster, all virtual machines continue running).

if persist, check your dns

Check DNS names of that 3 esx. If they are ok (different) check DNS records on DNS servers.

DNS server must be available during adding hosts in cluster, after that dns names of all esx in cluster are recorded in hosts file and dns is no more need for clustering.
