Hi,

Surely it's not problem with Hardware, Hope, It's problem with OS

I don't find VMware Comptibility Matrix pdf for vsphere 5.

But Windows 7 (x64) doesn't support installing VCenter 4 or 4.1.

You can check this guide for vsphere 4.1 http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf

You need choose Server OS to install VCenter 5.

Hi,

Are you trying to install VCenter 5 on top of Windows 7 (x64) OS?

You check this KB article for VCenter 5 requirements.

Hello, which error do you see during the installation ?

If it's complaining about virtualization support you should check in the BIOS of your machine that it's enabled for the CPU's...

Nicola

Hi,

vCenter Server 5.0 requires a 64-bit operating system and cannot be installed on a 32-bit operating system.

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter SP2 (required) 64bit
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter R2 SP2 (required) 64bit
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter SP2 64bit
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter R2 64bit

vCenter Server 5.0  is compatible to all ESX 4.x and ESXi 4.0 and ESXi5.0 hosts. Except ESX/ESXi 4.0 Update 2 is not supported for use with vCenter Server 5.0

Attached document will give and idea how to installed vCenter 5.0 on windows server OS.

Regards,

Hi Nicola,

It just shown the currently platform is not support VCenter 5.0 because I planning install it to a Virtual machine(Win7/64bit) of VMworkstation 8 and there is no especial settings on BIOS I think.

Now, it is working with Win2008R2.

Thank you.

Having the same problem.  Using a Dell M6600 Laptop, w/ Quad Core i7 64 Bit Processor, 16GB Memory, WIndows 7 64 Bit OS and plenty of disk space.  Virtualization is enabled  in BIOS.

Getting the same Platform not supported.

Hello Scooter,

if you follow these instructions

     http://www.mytricks.in/2011/08/how-to-install-vmware-vcenter-server-5.html

you can install vCenter 5 on Windows 7 x64 (i did it on Intel i3-2100, I suppose you can do it on an intel i5, too).

The Windows7 must be capable of installing the AD LDS ( from here http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=14683) which means that you can NOT install it on a Home Premium version.

During the install it is complaining about missing FQDN, which I suppose will give me problems later, when I try to set-up users and permissions...you should maybe install a vanilla W2008 server (or even a 2003, but I think that you can have a smaller footprint with 2008) with AD role and add the win7 to the domain before installing vCenter.

Let me know if you notice problems,

ciao Smiley Happy

Nicola
