Broadcom 5721 Gigabit Connection Speed Issue

I have a Dell server with two NetXtreme BCM5721 Gigabit Ethernet adapters. The connection speed alway defaults to 100 full even though it is configured to 1000 full.

I have updated the driver to this version: Driver version: 1.48.107.v40.2 | 2009-07-30 | Build: 181332

Following the instructions here: http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/drivercd/esx40-net-bnx2x_400.1.48.107-1.0.4.html

If i set the connection speed in the VI client, the network device will lock up.

The rest of my ESX 4.0 servers with different network cards do not have an issue with running at 1GB connect speed by default.

I just got done building a NFS / Opensolaris storage server for vm use and backups so the connection speed is big issue.

Thanks

Hello.

Asking obvious questions here, but have you verified that the physical switch port isn't locked at 100?

Good Luck!
