Basci question with Virtualcenter server & ESXi 4.1

Dear All,

A really entry level’s question. Currently we have a production system is running as picture shows. The High availability had been configured within VirtualCenter server. My question is if the power to host01 has been cut off, can Virtualcenter Server & Application server01 (both are running) still migration into host02. In other word, is Virtualcenter necessary for HA after you finish the configuration? Or is there any special configuration for this kind of solution within Cluster.

Thanks!

Provided HA has been configured properly and is working correctly, it shouldn't matter if the vCenter server goes down. The hosts are smart enough to work out when there is a problem via exchanging heartbeats over their management network. To answer your question, the virtual machines running on host01 should be restarted on host02...

As you already mentioned, vCenter Server is only needed to configure HA. If HA is configured correctly, the virtual machines should be restarted on the remaining host.
