Backing up a VM that already has a snapshot

Hi,

I am using vcbMounter to backup a VM. The VM already has a snapshot.

vcbmounter starts and finishes well.

Now I call vcbrestore to restore the VM and I want to replace the curent VM.

After restore, I am not able to bring up the VM. It just goes to boot mode.

Is there a known issue with vcbMounter and vcbrestore if a VM has multiple snapshots.

What is the best way to backup a Vm already having a snapshot ?

Do we need to backup the delta files from previous snapshots ?

Thanks,

Prasad

I am not sure about the vcb command issues but if you want an alternate solution for your issue take a look at our product esXpress.

The newest beta version can handle backing up Vms with an existing snapshot.

esxpress can do delta backups of your VM. To try it out you can download it from our web site http://www.esxpress.com

i think that vmkfstools -i ONLY backs up your vmdk without any snapshot - delta / redo

(although someone else has been suggesting otherwise in annother post)

fyi we normally use vmbk.pl to backup our VMs
