Any way to disable or rename the external "Welcome to VMware vSphere" web site (where you download the VI Client from)?

Need to comply with a Security Policy locally where no web site without authentication can be used...

For both vCenter and ESXi.

If you're using ESXi 5.0, then this is not recommended currently as it will break HA and log collections, but here is the KB for it: KB 1016039.

Here is an older guide for the vCenter welcome screen which is unsupported, and KB 1009420 documents disabling Web Access.
