Adding vCenter 7.1 embedded to a new Windows Active Directory

Hey Friends,

I just face a condition in my company.

We have a vCenter7.1 embedded that is already joined to a Windows Active Directory. Our Company has installed a new domain and we need to join our vCenter to the new AD.

1- are we able to detach vCenter from lagacy domain and add it to a new domain ?? If yes, what about our vcenter name and our Certificates. For example my vCenter name now is xyb.domain.com, But after join to new domain it will be xyb.newdomain.com

I am really worried this will damage the vCenter .

Could you please help me?

U can change it in 7.0 . Get the new AD up and update the new DNS ( both PTR) entries . Then follow below blog to change PNID ( Change FQDN to new VCSA hostname) .

NOTE:- Please have a backup and cold snapshot beforehand.

Thanks Ajay for your help, But it is the situation that I have.

I don't want to change the name of vcenter, I need to dejoin from a domain and join to a new domain again.

For exapmle:

My vcenter: xyb.mydomain.com

after transition should be :

                    xyb.newdomain.com
