Add a disk in virtual machine .

I´am a really vmware ignorant and i have a problem in my ESX server 2.5.

When I see Vmware management interface , I can see a file xxxxxx.vmdk with 150Gb in datastore A ,....but when I go to virtual center to add an existigng disk to a Virtual machine this file does´nt appears in datastore A..

What I should do to see this file in Virtual center ? or Why I can not see it?

Sorry for my english.

Thanks in advance

Is this ESX 3.5 or Esx 2.5X reason I ask is that VMFS structure between the 2 is radically different...

go to your vmfs datastore at command level and see if you can see it...

How are you trying to add the disk to the VM?

Well was this file copied to this server? If it's a copy, you have to use vmkfstools to import the file.

If you can putty to the server (or use any SSH session) to get to the server, you can run vmkfstools from the /vmfs/volumes on that xxxx.vmdk file.

There should be 2. 1 is xxxxx.vmdk and the other is xxxxx-flat.vmdk. ESX 2.5 only need the one file, ESX 3.5 needs the other to work correctly.

if you run vmkfstools -i /vmfs/volumes/vm-folder/vm-name.vmdk that should create the files for you, then you can see when creating a new VM.

Let me know if that helps.
