Access Restriction

Hey volks,

I'm a bit confused, the goal is to have a additional role in vcenter that can be used for users that are allowed to increase their vm-hdd-space (used for our 2nd level support team). Therefore in virtual machine -> configuration -> increase virtual disk the option was enabled. The issue is that the user can login into VC, open the Configuration Options for the VM, but the field with the size is greyed out. I checked on the same machine, the same way, same vm, and i'm able to change. So, VMware Tools and IDE HDD incompatibility cannot be the cause of this. I'm pretty sure it is related to permissions.

Can anybody tell me what additional permissions are required to increase the size of a vm? i tried several "in my opinion possible permissions", without success so far Smiley Sad Or is there a document that describes the options and their dependencies?

Thanks in advance!

BR,

Matthias

On vCenter 5.5, I created a role with the following permissions, which allows you to extend disks:

Datastore\Allocate Space

Virtual Machine\Configuration\Change Resource

Virtual Machine\Configuration\Extend virtual disk

Virtual Machine\Configuration\Settings
