Hi~~all:
I want try to install vCenter 5.5 edition on windows 2008 R2 64X.
and I use the VMware Workstation 10
when I installed the vCenter 5.5, I can't login by vShper Client 5.5.
I can login by vShper Web client, but it is seem can't do anything in web client.
my question is :
1.The vCenter should be install on windows domain server ?
2.can I install the vCenter server on stand alone windows server ?
3.I found if I had install 5.0 vCenter then install vCenter 5.5 , I can login by vShper client . why??
4.personly, I think the web client is not a good tool for management vCenter as so far !
5.If I download the VMware vCenter Server 5.5 Appliance , will I face the same problem ?
Dear All:
After test, I found my problem ,
if I want login use vSphere Client,
the account must use administrator@vsphere.local , it is can not use server local administrator ,or use windows session credentials ,
but after login with administrator@vsphere.local , and giveed the local administrator permissions administrator roles,
then the local administrator can login vCenter Server .
1.The vCenter should be install on windows domain server ?
: It is recommended to add you windows machine to the AD but it works just fine if you do not add to the domain. (In some deployment types, it is required ex. MultiSite SSO , multivc etc. deployments )
Refer: VMware KB: Installing vCenter Server 5.5 best practices
2.can I install the vCenter server on stand alone windows server ?
Yes, you can install all the vCenter components in single windows server.
3.I found if I had install 5.0 vCenter then install vCenter 5.5 , I can login by vShper client . why??
In vCenter 5.5, web client gets installed automatically as part of "Simple Install" installer option. Web client is mandatory to install as new features in vCenter 5.5 are available from web client only.
You will have to install vSphere client explicitly . However you can manage lagacy features/hosts in vSphere client.
4.personly, I think the web client is not a good tool for management vCenter as so far !
It is getting improved release over release.
5.If I download the VMware vCenter Server 5.5 Appliance , will I face the same problem ?
Yes, SSO>>Web client>>Inventory service>>vCenter : These components automatically gets installed.
You need to install VI client separately : VMware vSphere 5.1
Vicky:
thanks your response,
I had try to install vcenter 5.5 several times,
I can use web client login,
but I can not use vSpher client login,
It is seems single sigh on problem ,
I don't know how to fix it,
i had install vCenter in different kind windows server, includes stand alone server , member server, Domain controller can not install vCenter 5.5 ,
I want use vSpher client login because I want use update manager , and it seems need vShpher Client login.
Please refer this windows installer screen, I have highlighted VMware vSphere Clinet option, you need to explicitly install this component.
Before that make sure you have installed SSO/Inventory service/vCenter server component.
Other way to install vSphere client is by downloading directly only VI client installer.

It is great that it worked fine finally. I was suspecting the same but before that I was thinking you did not install compatible VI client which comes with that vCenter server as I pointed in my last update.
