AD :all usernames change, Implications on VCenter permissions?

Dear all,

we are planning to change the usernames in our AD. Our VCenter is running against this AD, so users with permissions on VMs authenticate against the AD when running VSPhere client. Which implications can occur when permissions for user AD\johndoe (old username ) must be changed to AD\johnahtandoe?

Thanks and best regards!

Hi

Depends 🙂

If you assign permissions in vCenter based on login name then after login name change users will get Permission denied message. But if you are using AD groups in you vCenter that users must use new login name in order to get into vCenter server.

Hi

ofcourse we're not using groups (except for Admins)....

Ok then we have to run a script that changes usernames in VCenter.

Are there any other ideas to change the content of the VCenter database?

thanks and best regards!

I suggest to search for some PowerCLI that manage export and import of vCenter permission.

So you can easy change the experted list and then import again.
